about

A cool and maximalist work sewing lo fi jazz to Brazilian funk, not forgetting the Latin beats that already characterize the sound of Craca Beat in their previous albums. Divided into two EPs of the same name with the suffix Side A and Side B, this 9-track album + 1 bonus track suggests resuming the habit of listening to old vinyl or k7 tapes. Not because of nostalgia for that vintage sound that this project does not lack, but because of the "ritual of crossing that we only experience when listening to an album in its entirety. In his previous projects, Craca ostensibly mixed samples and loops with organic or electronic elements actually played. Here, as the title Patchwork Cobogó suggests, practically all of the work arises from the patchwork sewing technique or “montage”, a term that makes direct reference to the film editing technique and, therefore, to narrative effects such as the “kuleshov effect”. In the same way, the cobogós, those rustic pieces of cast concrete originating from the Pernambuco architecture that we currently find in any corner of Brazil, reinforce the idea of geometric mosaic, of composition based on parts and of a civil (or musical) architecture that can to be permeated, crossed, invaded by humidity in a tropical, hot and exuberant country. The cobogós allow you to be inside and outside at the same time.. To be introverted and extroverted in a glance. It is through the gaps in the cobogós that we see the landscape and time passing by.
